On December 8th, 2023, development stakeholders in Morogoro Region rallied to support victims of landslides in Katesh, Hanang District, Manyara Region. Hon. Adam Kighoma Malima, the Regional Commissioner of Morogoro, received a generous donation from Viridium Tanzania Limited, comprising 10 tons of white charcoal, 50 stoves, and 500 cooking pots. This initial aid, valued at over 15 million Tanzanian Shillings, marks the first phase of support, with a second phase planned for next week. πΏπ€
“This is white charcoal packed and ready for transport to Hanang,” stated Hon. Adam Malima, expressing gratitude to both Viridium Tanzania Limited and the President of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for their swift response to the crisis. π
Aristotle Nikitas, the Marketing Officer of Viridium Tanzania Limited, emphasized the company’s commitment to environmental conservation, stating, “We decided to donate 10 tons of white charcoal and 50 stoves to facilitate food availability.” π±
Solomon Kasaba, Secretary of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) in Morogoro Region, extended condolences to the victims and commended the government’s efforts. The Regional Commissioner’s Office, in collaboration with CCM, continues to seek further assistance for the affected. π
The landslides have tragically claimed over 70 lives, with more than 100 others injured. Viridium Tanzania Limited and other stakeholders remain dedicated to providing ongoing support to the affected communities.
